A Time Before Texas

The exhibition A Time Before Texas, created by the Texas Department of Transportation and presented in partnership with Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, is on view through March 19, 2026 at the Irving Archives and Museum. A Time Before Texas draws on both current scientific research and cultural traditions to explore what life was like for the first people to call early Texas home. Through fascinating archaeological discoveries, the exhibition reveals how Paleoindians lived and highlights the knowledge and traditions passed down through generations, many of which ultimately gave rise to culturally distinct Tribes and Indigenous American communities.

Humanities Texas develops and supports diverse programs across the state, including lectures, oral history projects, teacher institutes, museum exhibitions and documentary films. For more information, please visit Humanities Texas online at http://www.humanitiestexas.org or call 512.440.1991.
