Faces of COVID - Yellow Hearts Memorial

Faces of COVID – Yellow Hearts Memorial

The Faces of COVID – Yellow Hearts Memorial was a memorial exhibit that was curated and created by COVID survivor advocate, Rosie Davis, who lost her mother to COVID in 2020. The memorial was displayed in the Jack D. Huffman Community Building Lobby and consisted of memorial portraits created by artist Hannah Ernst through her initiative Faces of COVID and yellow hearts with the names of lost loved ones. The yellow heart has become a symbol of remembrance for those we have lost to COVID.

The mission of both the Faces of COVID and Yellow Hearts Memorial groups is to ensure that those lost to COVID are not “just a number” but that they were loved members of families, friends, and colleagues.

Irving residents and survivors from all over the country were invited to submit names of their loved ones or come complete a heart in person. Over 2,000 yellow hearts were placed in the memorial.

The Yellow Heart Memorial has now become a national and international initiative with communities receiving kits from Rosie Davis that help them host their own memorials.

On view January 4, 2021 – February 28, 2021.
